Bharrat Jagdeo, president of Guyana has been given the United Nations highest award for environmental leadership.

Mr. Bharrat received this honor with five other winners taken from government, science, business and entertainment.

The awardees were announced at the Earth Day and Business for the Environment Global Summit in Seol, South Korea.  They are : Mohamed Nasheed, President of the Maldives, prince Mostapha Zaher, Afganistans’s director general of the National Environment Protection Agency, Zhou Xum, Chinese actress, Dr.Taro Takahasi, Japanese earth scientist , Vinod Khosla co-founder of Sun Microsystems and Caribbean leader, Bharrat jagdeo, president of Guyana. President Jagdeo was also named by the Times magazine as a global leader in environmental issues.
